As a small business owner, I wear many hats. I juggle numbers, plan product ranges, think about pricing, manage social media, and try to take a decent photo now and then. There are plenty of moments where I stop and ask myself, “Can I actually do this?”

But I never ask that question when I’m sewing.

Sewing is the one place where my confidence is completely unwavering. It’s something I’ve done for a very long time, and over the years it’s become second nature—my rhythm, my space, my way of creating. When I sit at the machine, I don’t doubt myself. Instead, I ask different questions: Can I do this better? Faster? Neater? Simpler? That quiet confidence is my superpower.

And it’s exactly why I started Olganna.

The Joy of Making

For me, sewing has always been about more than the finished piece. Of course, I love creating handcrafted bags, purses, and accessories—choosing fabrics, refining details, and seeing an idea come to life. But what I really love is the process.

The hum of the machine.
The feel of fabric coming together.
The satisfaction of turning something inside out and seeing it just work.

Even now, after all these years, that feeling hasn’t gone away.

Creating with Purpose

A lot of what I make—and teach—comes from wanting things that are both beautiful and useful. A well-made bag that lasts. A purse that feels special every time you pick it up. Or something simple, like reusable face wipes made from fabric offcuts—small things that make a difference, both practically and environmentally.

I love that sewing allows me to create with intention. Nothing feels wasted. Even the smallest scraps can become something worthwhile.

Sharing Sewing with Others

Starting sewing classes felt like a natural next step for me. I wanted to share that feeling of confidence—the one that comes from knowing your way around a sewing machine and realising, “I can actually do this.”

In my beginner classes, we start with the basics—threading the machine, understanding how it works, and creating something simple like a tote bag. It’s not about perfection. It’s about that moment when everything clicks and you realise you’ve made something yourself.

By the end of the session, no one feels like a complete beginner anymore. That shift is my favourite part.

I also run project classes where we make things like padded glasses cases, zip purses, laptop sleeves, and reusable wipes. I love seeing people leave not just with a finished item, but with new skills, ideas, and the confidence to keep going at home.

Sewing as Confidence

There’s something powerful about sewing. It teaches patience, problem-solving, and creativity all at once. It shows you that mistakes can be fixed, that skills improve with practice, and that you’re capable of more than you think.

That’s what I want Olganna to be about.

Yes, it’s about the products I make.
Yes, it’s about the classes I teach.

But more than anything, it’s about helping people discover that same confidence and joy that I feel every time I sit down at my sewing machine.

Because once you find that feeling, it stays with you.
