Attended the first beginners class at Helens new studio with my 12 year old granddaughter who loves everything crafty, but had never touched a sewing machine in her life, and its decades since I used one so I was definitely a bit nervous. But I needn't have been, Helen guided us through everything, explaining all the different parts of the machine, how to thread the needle, wind the spool and get ready to sew.
We did a bit of practice on some scraps of material and then it was on to making! We chose our materials and then Helen guided and supported us in making a lovely tote bag.
There was just 5 of us in the class, which meant Helen could keep us all on track and give us individual attention when we needed it, it was very relaxed and Helen is so friendly and welcoming.
We both came home proud of our makes, my granddaughter is already asking when we can do another class.
Would highly recommend!
I booked this for my 16 uear old daughter who got a sewing machine for christmas but we didnt know how to use it. We booked a beginners class with Helen and she not only showed her how to set it up and use it, she made an amazing tote bag on her 1st lesson ! It was hard to get her through the door as shes only 16 and very shy but after me staying with her for the 1st ten minutes, she felt very relaxed and asked me to leave ! The grouo was small and she will definitley be returning. Thank you Helen for making her at ease
As someone who has never used a sewing machine before Helen was very welcoming and great at teaching us how the machines worked and how to use them. The process was easy to follow and she was always available to answer any questions. I would definitely recommend this class to anyone who wants to learn the basics of sewing
Yesterday I attended the zip bag sewing purse class. This was my third absolute beginners class with Helen and I can’t wait for my next class.
Helen is so personable, nothing is too much trouble and she makes you feel so relaxed. Every class I have attended has been so enjoyable - there is no need to feel nervous as Helen is on hand to help and guide you through. If you go wrong Helen always has the answer and mistakes are easily rectified. Can’t recommend these classes with Helen enough.
I booked onto Helen’s absolute beginners class , I have my mums sewing machine since she passed away , she was a seamstress and could do anything needed on her machine , she offered to show me over the years but I always declined as it was her forte, when she passed away i told myself I would learn to use her machine but I had no idea where to start. By chance I came across the Facebook page ‘ Olgana’ run by Helen , I messaged her and she gave me the confidence to come along to her session and I must say im so glad I did , I can now confidently thread the machine and sew in an almost straight line , I even made a bag , from scratch ! So pleased I came along , Helen was patient and informative , if you want to learn how to use a sewing machine I can’t recommend her enough , thank you Helen x
