Beyond the Basics: A 6-Week Sewing Skills Course

You've attended the absolute beginners class, made your first project and know your way around a sewing machine. Now it's time to build your confidence and learn the techniques that take your sewing to the next level.

This 6-week course has been designed for students who have completed an Absolute Beginners sewing class and are ready to tackle more exciting projects while developing new skills each week.

Working in a small, friendly group, you'll create a collection of practical projects while learning zips, quilting, topstitching, curves, structure, interfacing and bag-making techniques. Each project builds on the last, helping you gain confidence and accuracy before completing a fully lined cross-body bag in the final session.

All materials are included, so you can simply turn up and sew, though you are welcome to bring your own sewing machine if you want to.

What You'll Make - 

Week 1 – Zip Make-Up Bag & Coin Purse

Learn how to confidently insert zips and work with lining fabrics while creating a matching accessory set.

Week 2 – Drawstring Gift Bags

Master casings, channels and drawstrings while making reusable fabric gift bags in a range of sizes.

Week 3 – Patchwork Quilted Cushion Cover

Learn the basics of patchwork and quilting while creating a beautiful cushion cover with an envelope back fastening.

Week 4 – Rounded Make-Up Bag

Take your zip skills further with a shaped bag featuring curves, topstitching and professional finishing techniques.

Week 5 – Fabric Storage Basket with Fold-Down Cuff

Create a structured lined basket while learning about shape, stability and construction techniques used in larger projects.

Week 6 – Fully Lined Cross-Body Bag

Bring all your new skills together to create a stylish cross-body bag featuring zips, interfacing, multiple layers, straps and professional finishing details.
