Absolute Beginners Sewing Class

Start sewing with confidence – one stitch at a time

Let’s get to know our machines and lose the fear. If you have a sewing machine but don’t know where to begin — or you’d like to try sewing before buying a machine — this session is for you.

Join a relaxed 2‑hour group class at M24 Arts & Crafts, Middleton (M24 6AA) designed to help you understand your machine, build confidence, and complete a simple starter project.

Bring your own machine or borrow one of mine. All materials, guidance, and encouragement are provided.

What you’ll learn

I’ll guide you through the essential skills every beginner needs:

• Threading your machine

• Understanding tension

• Changing the needle

• Simple maintenance

• Stitch length and width

• What all the dials do

• Starting, stopping, and back‑tacking

• Winding the bobbin

• Top‑stitching

• Changing direction

• Helpful hints, tips, and troubleshooting

We’ll practise everything together, and you’ll leave with the confidence to start your own simple sewing projects.
